Still A Man

They say he's just a begger
Living there on the street
Looking for any hand out
To get something to eat

So many don't understand him
They don't know he served in a war
Just to be kicked around the streets
They can't see his battle scars

Some say he's just a worthless bum
As he goes on past his pride
Reaching with his hand out
With so much bottled up inside

If they only knew his reasons
They would help him everyday
They'd give him food and shelter
And listen to what he'd say

Many want to judge at the outside
And cast blame on what they see
But once he was a normal man
Who lived like you and me

He don't judge no one by their color
He only expects the very same
But in this cruel world of ours
Too many like to cast that blame

He was once a captured Marine
The only survivor of his platoon
After Five years of torturing
He escaped by the light of the moon

And once he made it back home
He found he had lost his family too
The military had declared him dead
So she remarried what else was she to do

So he took to drinking heavy
Until he was completely broke
And no one would help him
They said he was a joke

The Marines turned their backs
Though at once he brought them fame
When he told of the enemy camps
They rescued even more of the same

So now he lives on the streets
Living like a dog running a stray
Crawling back inside of his box
Living like that day to day

So if you see him out there
Then please help him if you can
For he served our country well
No matter what he's still a man

I just said I know those that
