All along the Colonial Parkway in York County, Virginia; very near where the Revolutionary War ended between the American colonies and England.

I waited for the foliage to reach the height of color---but the wild swans were an unexpected surprise!

Oooooooh Roy,

These are fabulous photos!!! Autumn is my favorite time of the year. The foliage is exquisite. I really enjoyed the swans, also. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talent with us.

Yep se doodle Roy--- I agree with J.J., except for the swans---- I see them just about---- well I see them a lot. I've often wondered what wild swan would taste like--- wild turkey perhaps?

Wild turkeys do not feed in rivers or ponds as swans do, I don't think. I think they would taste nothing alike, myself. They are so much more beautiful than turkeys, who would want to eat one anyway? Not I for sure. The photos you took of those black swans where exquisitely beautiful. The first black ones I have ever seen. Thank you again Roy, for sharing with us!!!

Well, Cyrille, the nobility of Europe dined upon peacocks (in various countries). However I've never heard of swans being consumed. Wild swans, like Bald Eagles, are protected by law here in Virginia; even though they're migratory birds. This was only my second encounter with swans in the wild.

They're far from helpless birds, though. In 1970 a friend of mine got a broken rib from one that attacked him! It was purchased by my then-employer and put out in the pond behind the main show-barn. They've got powerful legs---and big claws too!

I'm glad y'all enjoyed these.

Hi Roy,
The Maple trees depicted in your photography are delicious with the colors of Autumn. Personally, I like Maple wood. It is hard as nails and provides a gorgeous finish on objects made from this species. And, if you burn it in your fireplace, it burns at a higher temperature than other softer woods.
Because of the variety of Maple species, the different colors really spice up the woods with an abundant assortment of hues. Great work capturing the blends of Autumn's beauty. warm regards, ev.
