This is commissioned portrait piece I'm doing for my boss. It is a photo he did for Osh Kosh Bgosh, that they used without his concent. Now, it is mine for the taking.

I am posting the successions starting with the original pic. Hope everything shows up well. It is still in the works though, and so far, I'm losing her mouth, nose, and ears - my three nemises. It's called overworking my shading because I am so scared to do anything else.

Oh bother, well you will be able to watch me figure this problem out - hopefully in due time. I've got till the end of the year to complete it.

Wish me luck.

The rest of the pics. All the way to what I accomplished this night.

So far, I found her eyes, and darkened the background a bit. Then toned her skin color more.

More updates to some as soon as I find her nose, ears, and lips.

Phichisym,
Very nice likeness. I know that you are not quite finished, you have made some wonderful improvements. Her eyes to me seem to be too pronounced, with the sun shineing in her face, shouldn't she have more of a squint? I may not be able to view the origional as well either. I can't wait to see the completion. Good word!

Well...

In the original pic, the girl's eyes are rather tiny and dainty. Even though she was standing in a very shady area, her eyes were still dark and squintish (new word!), but when I sketched it out, they grew wider. LOL!

I tried to alter them, but everytime I did, I started to doubt my move. (That has been a problem of mine - the fear of messing everything up and starting over again. This is already rework number 2.))

Yes, it will be my own downfall if I do not change that issue within, but no matter I'm still happy about certain features of this piece. I believe that the work will be well liked when I'm done.

The client is already excited with what they have already seen, so I'm joyful. Thankie for the comments.

Update on piece 9-11-08

So far I've darkened the background a bit, for she is actually in a shaddy place. I've started building up her hair color, fleshing out the lips a bit more, and still finding her ears.

Eventually I will work on the flowers and I might just leave the straw hat the way it is. I'm too nervous about adding more texture to it...I don't know. I may just push the envelope a little, and face my fears.

Well, still - so far, so good.

I haven't given her a third eye, hugh botox lips, or a strangely placed beauty mark. So, I guess I'm all right.

Comments, suggestions...laughts, cries, anything...all welcomed. Just don't bash me. I need comfidence.

These are excellent. I love seeing the phases you go through to reach the final painting. She just gets cuter and cuter doesn't she. The only real comment I have (take this with a grain of salt because I've never painted portraits from real life but her left eye seems to be hightlighted to much. The almost white color on her upper lid and brow and lower lid. Wouldn't that be in a mild shadow?

No mdmkay,

I see what you mean. I believe I've darkened it up a bit more in my recent changes, adding a shade of flesh tone rather than light.

Thankie for the comment.

I will try to post the next pic soon. She's looking rather nice, but I'm still arguing with myself about her eyes and hat. I don't want the hat to stay so white and flat, but I'm nervous about adding more to it, as well as the additions taking the attention away from the 's face.

Detail I will, in time, answer.

Until then, ja mata de.

Okay, she's still in the works. I haven't really done that much to her because - I'm still scared about her hat.

Someone hit me with a shot of Van Gogh or Kandinsky! I need some confindence.

Anywho, update will come soon - promise that.

I agree with you the hat seems to be just a bit oversized on the bottom where you have the dark
shadow. It needs to be alittle closer to her head.

But just to give you confidence. You're work is absolutely stunning. You've managed to capture the same mood and expression the child shows in the original picture, which is I think very important.
More important than the accessory items.

I believe I like the last picture...more lighter and
detailed.

This is a beautiful of innocence:).

Well thank you Angelic and Darlene.

That last pic is the last step in the process so far. Right now I've darkened the shadowed side of her face and started to figure out the detail of the straw hat.

Oh, her had it actually an adult size, and she has it sitting lop-sided on her head. That's why it looks so strange. It's one of those cute, innocent, 'Look mama, I'm dressed like you' moments.

I'll get some shots of it soon. I've been struggling with a sick computer and had to buy a new scanner that would play nicely with Vista.

Update will come.
